Family Planning
The Family Planning Education and Outreach Program began in 2007. The program focuses on essential education about conception and contraception – information most Ugandans are not taught – as well as the administration of certain family planning methods in the field.
Education through pictorial diagrams, followed by Q & A sessions, distribution of condoms and administration of birth control pills and injectable methods is conducted by trained nurses with the assistance of local educators. Both men and women attend the sessions.
Teams of nurse-educators return to the 38 villages in Jinja District on an ongoing quarterly basis.
The program offers information about:
The nutrition discussion emphasizes the importance of breastfeeding, vitamin supplements, vaccination, clean water, and provides a breakdown of the food pyramid. Deworming and vitamin A supplementation are available to all attendees at the family planning outreach sessions as well.
