Allan Stone Community Health Clinic
In 2006, the Allan Stone Community Health Clinic (ASCHC), named in memory of Dr. Jessie Stone's father, opened its doors. Today the clinic offers primary and preventative health care services, family planning, physical therapy, dentistry, domestic violence counseling and a community patient program to people who are in need of care.
ASCHC is an outpatient facility emphasizing education and prevention alongside medical treatment. SPH charges a subsidized clinic fee of UGX 15,000 for general patients and UGX 20,000 for patients with hypertension or diabetes.
The SPH team is almost entirely comprised of local Ugandan staff and currently includes; 4 medical doctors, 4 nurse practitioners, 10 nurses, 6 lab techs, 1 medical imaging technologist, 3 physical therapists, 1 dentist, 2 receptionists, 3 triage attendants, 3 cooks, 1 accountant, 1 daily operations manager, and 7 gardeners.
The Kyabirwa clinic has 5 consultation and 2 treatment rooms, a laboratory, pharmacy and kitchen. Recently completed renovations include separate rooms for physiotherapy, outreach, ultrasonography, volunteer and staff. The lab has capabilities to perform complete blood counts, comprehensive microscopic testing and rapid diagnostic tests for malaria, diarrheic conditions, diabetes, UTI’s, filarial (parasitic worm) infections, and beyond. In addition, the pharmacy supplies the highest quality pharmaceutical treatment for malaria and other diseases.
Solar power and roof water collection allow the clinic to operate independently of local power supply. Long drop toilets have been installed to accommodate the needs of all patients and staff. A solar-powered refrigerator has ample storage space for all vaccines and medicines requiring refrigeration.
